United Kingdom records 9,284 new Covid-19 cases in rising trend

The pace of first doses being administered in B.C. has slowed considerably over recent weeks.

The province's seven-day average also dropped below 100 for the first time since October 2, and the active caseload fell to 1,209 - the lowest it's been since September 3.

The United Kingdom recorded 10,633 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday, up from the 9,284 the day before, the government said in its daily statistical update.

Of the new cases, 51 are in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 99 are in the Fraser Health region, five are in the Island Health region, 60 are in the Interior Health region and 13 are in the Northern Health region.

Across B.C. less than 100 new cases were found each day over the weekend for a total of 229.

Sixteen people with Covid-19 have died since the start of Fiji's current outbreak.

Senate passes bill making Juneteenth a federal holiday
It is on the verge of becoming a federal holiday after the Senate and House both voted in June of 2021 to establish the day off. The resolution designates June 19 as " Juneteenth independence day", in recognition of the same date in 1865.

Case rates are falling as vaccination rates continue to rise. Only 28,251 people in B.C. got their first dose of vaccine in the past three days, according to government statistics.

There were also three more deaths over the weekend, bringing the death toll to 1,743.

According to a joint statement issued by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix, 935,401 British Columbians have now received a second dose.

The of hospitalizations continues to decline, with 108 are people now in hospital. There are 108 patients in hospital and 48 in ICU.

"Let's remember that the virus is still circulating in communities, here in B.C. and in neighbouring provinces and territories", they wrote.

With the vaccine rate increasing, New Mexico's rate of COVID-19 infections has dropped to its lowest level since April 2020 and the state's death rate related to the virus has also gone down. "If you are planning a trip, ensure you are vaccinated before you go - it is your ticket to safe travel this summer".
