One killed as truck hits crowd at Florida Pride parade

One man was killed and another injured after two people were hit by a truck at a South Florida gay pride march on Saturday evening.

Chris Caputo, a city commissioner in Wilton Manors, tweeted late Saturday that it was 'increasingly probable it was an accident'.

Justin Knight, the chorus' president, said through a spokesman that chorus members were the ones injured and that the driver was "part of the Chorus family".

"To my knowledge, this was not an attack on the LGBTQ community", Knight said in his statement.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis was at the event and said he witnessed the incident. "As the Chorus family mourns together, we thank the community for their love and understanding".

"A tragic incident occurred at today's Stonewall event", Wilton Manors Mayor Scott Newton said in a statement, according to WPLG-TV. The truck narrowly missed Rep. Deborah Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., who was present at the parade.

Adamson said police are speaking with the driver and witnesses. "Video of the arrest showed the driver wearing a gay men's chorus t-shirt, which was more than enough to [sow] reasonable doubt about the intent of the driver", Florida-based radio host Grant Stern wrote on Twitter. The other remains hospitalised with serious injuries but is expected to survive.

Mr Biden believes that the West's battle for domination with China will be the defining geopolitical struggle of the 21st Century. Putin, in an interview with NBC News, said the U.S. -Russia relationship had "deteriorated to its lowest point in recent years".

The driver of the pickup truck was taken into custody.

"I am deeply shaken and devastated that a life was lost and others seriously injured at tonight's @WiltonManorsCty Stonewall #Pride Parade". I am so heartbroken by what took place at this celebration. "May the memory of the life lost be for a blessing", she added.

"We were at the start of the parade, right in front of Fort Lauderdale High School", spectator Christina Currie, who was there with her husband and their two elementary school aged children, told the Sun-Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale's local newspaper. The truck, carrying a rainbow flag, then barreled through a fence and into the Fort Lauderdale Garden Center.

The parade, celebrated by Wilton Manors during Pride Month, has been put on hold as police investigate the scene.

According to a statement from Broward County, "we know two individuals marching to celebrate inclusion and equality were struck by a vehicle".

June is Pride Month, which commemorates the 1969 Stonewall riots sparked by repeated police raids on a popular gay bar in NY.
