Rep. Omar's Remarks Cause Uproar Among Democrats

Her tweet first drew backlash from Republican members of Congress, who recalled Omar's previous anti-Semitic statements-for which she apologized after being reprimanded by leadership-and began once again calling for Omar to be removed from her Foreign Affairs Committee seat.

Her tweet came after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats said in a joint statement that drawing any comparison between the U.S. and Israel and Hamas and the Taliban "foments prejudice and undermines progress towards a future of peace and security for all". "We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban", Omar said Monday.

The Minnesota Representative responded in a statement on Thursday, saying, "On Monday, I asked Secretary of State Antony Blinken about ... ongoing International Criminal Court investigations". "The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique, but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups".

Hamas highly appreciates Omar's stances in support of justice and the rights of the oppressed around the world, foremost among them is the just rights of the Palestinian people.

A Republican effort to remove Omar from her committees would likely fail in the Democratic-run chamber but would spotlight divisions within the party that the GOP has sought to exploit before.

"Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided", the lawmakers said.

While Rep. Omar needed to address her remarks, her clarification was too little and too late. She's compared the U.S.to Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Taliban now.

"The National Republican Congressional Committee tweeted Thursday, "@Housedemocrats must vote to strip anti-Semite @IlhanMN of her committee assignments".

After the letter went public, Omar went on the attack - against her own Democratic colleagues.

It was that trust - along with drug shipments and other illegal activities - that law enforcement agencies were hoping to disrupt. Of all of those detained, they primarily face charges of drug trafficking, money laundering, gun violations, and violent crime.

"Legitimate criticism of the policies of both the United States and Israel is protected by the values of free speech and democratic debate", they said. "And indeed, such criticism is essential to the strength and health of our democracies", said the statement signed by Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Majority Whip James Clyburn, Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark, fellow "progressive" member Hakeem Jeffries who is the Democratic Caucus Chairman, and Vice Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar.

Republicans also criticized Omar, with the party's House leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy saying, "Rep. Omar's antisemitic & anti-American comments are abhorrent".

This isn't the first time Omar has drawn prominent criticism from within her own party.

This week's flareup involving Omar, 38, was the most recent instance in which she has clashed with fellow Democrats over the Middle East.

"Anti-Semitism is real and I am grateful for Jewish allies and colleagues who are educating me on the painful history of anti-Semitic tropes", Ms. Omar said in a statement then, about an hour after Ms. Pelosi and the entire Democratic leadership publicly chastised her for engaging in "deeply offensive" anti-Semitic tropes.

Our people under occupation enjoy their inherent right to resist the occupation by all available means, including armed resistance, and here we remember the famous saying of the worldwide activist Nelson Mandela: "It is always the oppressor, not the oppressed, who dictates the form of the struggle", what our people have done over the years The past, and what we are doing now, is a legitimate and guaranteed right.

The Palestinian people have been living under the Zionist occupation for more than seven decades, during which they suffered a lot, and the most heinous crimes were committed against them.

You know who else was unhappy?

Accordingly, we look to Mrs. Ilhan Omar, and all defenders of Palestinian rights, to describe things correctly and accurately, because this is the most important starting point for laying the foundations for a just solution to this chronic conflict.
