Police Shoot Black Teenager Ma'Khia Bryant In Columbus, Ohio

Family members have identified the girl killed in the shooting as Makiyah Bryant, aged 16.

"As I said earlier, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting the criminal investigation into this incident". But things changed quickly, she said.

Police showed bodycam footage Tuesday night at a news conference of the officer shooting the girl, who was Black, as she appeared to attempt to stab two people with a knife.

WBNS-TV reported that the girl shot by police was 16-year-old Ma'Khia Bryant, according to the girl's mother, Paula Bryant.

The shooting unfolded the same day that a 12-person jury panel in the trial of Derek Chauvin over last year's fatal arrest of George Floyd found Chauvin guilty on all three charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The chief said he "would be taken off the street" pending an investigation.

"As we watched the verdict from Minneapolis many talked about the sigh of relief - but there is a truth that for so many in our community there is no relief", said Columbus City Council president Shannon Hardin at a Tuesday meeting related to new civilian review board for police.

Ben Crump, the prominent civil rights lawyer representing the Floyd family, weighed in on Twitter: "As we breathed a collective sigh of relief today, a community in Columbus felt the sting of another police shooting", he wrote, mourning another "child lost".

Ingenuity Helicopter Has Successful Mars Flight
NASA's Perseverance Mars rover took a selfie with the Ingenuity helicopter, seen here about 13 feet (3.9 meters) from the rover. Flight controllers at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory received data confirming the successful flight at 3:46 AM PDT (10:46 UTC).

According to The Columbus Dispatch it was at 4:35 PM EST when 911 received a call about an "attempted stabbing".

Hazel Bryant told the outlet that her niece lived in a foster home in the area and had gotten into a fight with someone else at the home. "If an officer has violated policy or the law, if they have, they will be held accountable".

Police released the body camera footage of the incident that showed a young female tackling another female to the ground with what appeared to be a knife in her hand.

In another video broadcast from the scene, one of the officers yells back: "Blue lives matter".

Here is what we know. Police confirmed the person died at the hospital.

The police shooting in his neighborhood "just brings it home a little closer", he said, and reaffirms his decision to tell his 18-year-old son - who, like Graham, is Black - never to call the police. "Because as you're getting one phone call that he was guilty, I'm getting the next phone call that this is happening in my neighborhood".

Bryant then turns around and tries to hit or stab another girl in pink clothing.
