3 dead in Texas shooting, suspect at large, considered armed and unsafe

A massive multi-agency manhunt including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and U.S. Marshals are in Austin hunting for an armed suspect wanted for killing at least three people near an apartment complex earlier on Sunday.

Around 2:30 p.m., the police said the suspect was still at large and asked residents to shelter in place.

"We believe our suspect knew who he was targeting", Beth said during a Sunday morning news conference.

According to the police chief, the victims of the Sunday shooting are two Hispanic women and one Black man. It is not known what connection the child has to the alleged suspect or victims.

Asked about the suspect's background, Chacon told reporters: "We do have some preliminary information that he might be prior law enforcement, but I don't have that confirmed at this time".

As of this posting, the Austin Police Department and Austin-Travis County EMS are saying this is an active shooting incident. EMS spokeswoman Capt. Christa Stedman said early Sunday afternoon that it was still an active scene and that no arrests have been made.

Josh Katzowitz, who had been shopping at the nearby Trader Joe's, said police and ambulances came "pouring in" to the area as he was leaving.

"The cops had their guns out", he said.

The area includes a strip mall containing several retail stores and large apartment complexes situated near wooded rolling hills.
