All adults in U.S. eligible for vaccine from 19 April: Joe Biden

"You've got to prioritize somehow".

U.S. President Joe Biden announced Tuesday that all American adults will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccines by April 19, two weeks ahead of the original deadline which was set on May 1.

Meanwhile, the White House Press Secretary has reported that the government will be delivering more than 28 million vaccine shots to the USA states this week.

Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband, Doug Emhoff, also spent the day Tuesday focused on promoting the COVID-19 vaccine, each touring a vaccination center, Harris in Chicago and Emhoff in Yakima, Washington.

But Biden's announcement of the 19 April deadline was aimed at injecting optimism into a public that's grown tired of the restrictions, and it comes as a flood of vaccine is being sent to states this week.

"Yesterday we crossed 150 million shots [in the first] 75 days of my administration", President Biden added.

Most states have either made vaccines available to all residents 16 and older or announced plans to do so by mid-April. Being eligible means people can sign up to reserve their place in a virtual line until they can schedule an appointment.

"My hope is before the summer is over, I'm talking to you all about how we have even access to more vaccines than we need to take care of every American, and we're helping other poor countries, countries around the world that don't have the money, the time, the expertise", Biden said.

There appeared to be some confusion over whether Trump meant all Americans would be vaccinated by April or could get vaccinated by then, but CNN's lead sentence appeared to suggest Trump meant the latter in terms of supply. "There are going to be more people waiting".

Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, issued an order Tuesday forbidding state agencies or any entity receiving public money from requiring vaccine passports.
