With COVID-19 vaccines becoming more accessible to people around the world, scientists in the United Kingdom are nearly two months into testing whether it's safe to mix vaccination types.

Hospitalizations are up about 3%, with an average of almost 5,000 new admissions every day.

Daily COVID-19 deaths have been declining steadily for the past three months and the average number of fatalities per day is now below 1,000.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director, said the US averaged about 64,000 new cases last week, a 7%-increase over the previous seven-day period.

Who's in the hospital: The state reported 150 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were now in the hospital on Sunday, which is three fewer than on Saturday.

Since it began: OR has reported 166,882 confirmed OR presumed infections and 2,392 deaths, among the lowest per capita numbers in the nation.

As of Monday Iowa had two long-term care facilities experiencing COVID-19 outbreaks.

"People can be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 through contact with contaminated surfaces and objects, however evidence has demonstrated the risk by this route of transmission is actually low", Walensky said.
