Vietnam receives first batch of vaccines under COVAX scheme

The regulator has said that the benefits of the AstraZeneca vaccine in preventing Covid-19, with its associated risk of hospitalization and death, outweigh the risks of side effects.

About 14.6 per cent of the Canadian adult population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, according to new figures from the Public Health Agency of Canada.

"A causal link with the vaccine is not proven, but is possible and further analysis is continuing", the EMA said in a statement on Wednesday.

The government announced its pivot on the AstraZeneca vaccine to the 55-to-65 age group on Tuesday afternoon through a partnership with Immunize B.C. and the pharmacists.

In a statement ahead of the announcement, AstraZeneca said tens of millions of people worldwide have received its vaccines, and noted that the European Union regulator and the World Health Organisation concluded that the benefits of the shot outweigh the risks.

On Monday, Canada suspended use of the AstraZeneca vaccine in people under 55, citing new concerning data from Europe.

India rolled out an ambitious vaccine export programme, rivalling China's, in a move to fortify its worldwide influence.

Resumed use on March 25 after suspending it on March 11 pending investigations into reports that it might be linked to blood clots.

Last month, Pfizer touted its coronavirus vaccine as a drug that offers "robust immune responses" to the disease with no serious side effects.

The province remains on schedule to administer a COVID-19 vaccine dose to everyone who is eligible and wants one before Canada Day, the statement said.

The organization said the number was "only a fraction of the number of hate incidents that actually occur". The attack on the woman in NY on Sunday was caught on surveillance video.

Restarted administering the vaccine on March 19, now for over 65-year-olds only.

Mr Oommen C. Kurian, the head of the health initiative at the Observer Research Foundation, a think-tank, said the Narendra Modi-led government had taken a "big domestic political risk" by exporting vaccines.

Health Minister Venko Filipce said on March 31 that AstraZeneca shots would be limited to people aged over 60 as a precautionary measure.

People aged below 60 who have already received a first AstraZeneca shot have the option of either receiving their second shot as planned, if they are high priority, or to wait for STIKO to issue its recommendation, which it is expected to do by the end of April.

Spain was so far using the AstraZeneca only for people aged 18-65 years, focusing on essential workers such as police, firefighters or teachers.

Began use on March 15, with Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha becoming the first to be inoculated, after Thailand delayed rollout the week before. "In this era of shortage of vaccines, he is claiming he has access to 110 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines lying down in an airport", he said.

In addition, the EMA said it was granting "more flexible storage conditions" to the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine - which was cleared on the basis that it needed ultra-cold freezer temperatures for storage and delivery.

"The way to tell if cases are caused by vaccination is to look to see if there is an excess of cases in people who have been vaccinated", said Dr. Peter English, past chair of the British Medical Association's Public Health Medicine Committee.
