GOP Rep. Gaetz denies sexual misconduct claims

He denied that he ever had a relationship with any underage girls and said the allegations against him were "as searing as they are false".

During an interview on Tuesday, the Florida representative named former DOJ official David McGee as the man who is trying to extort him and his family.

The New York Times on Tuesday reported that the U.S. Department of Justice has been investigating whether Rep. Matt Gaetz, now 38, a Florida Republican and staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, paid a 17-year-old girl to travel with him while the pair was engaged in a sexual relationship.

And Gaetz says we're right to be a little skeptical. I never met the person."From there, things only got weirder, as Gaetz tried to get Carlson to affirm on air that the two of them had a dinner with one woman who is apparently part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation probe against Gaetz."You and I went to dinner about two years ago, your wife was there, and I brought a friend of mine, you'll remember her", Gaetz said".

"I demand the DOJ immediately release the tapes, made at their direction, which implicate their former colleague in crimes against me based on false allegations", he concluded.

Gaetz, 38, added that his father has been working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the Northern District of Florida on the extortion case. The investigation was launched by the DOJ under former Attorney General Bill Barr in the final months of the Trump administration, the Times reported. "I don't think that clarified much, but it certainly showed this is a deeply interesting story and we'll be following it". Numerous laws deem it sex trafficking to solicit a minor across state lines in exchange for money. "I have a suspicion that someone is trying to recategorize my generosity to ex-girlfriends as something more untoward".

Transmission of SARS-CoV-2 from an animal reservoir like bats to another host in which the virus spread before infecting humans. But there were few details to explain how such an agreement might actually compel countries to act more co-operatively.

"I have definitely, in my single days, provided for women I've dated", Gaetz told Axios.

"I don't remember the woman you're speaking of, or the context at all, honestly", responded Carlson. Gaetz denied the allegations, said he's being smeared and extorted, and claimed to Carlson his family went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

News of the criminal inquiry into Gaetz came hours after Axios reported earlier Tuesday that the Florida congressman was considering not seeking reelection in favor of a job at the far-right media network Newsmax.

Elected in 2016, Gaetz rose to national prominence in recent years as one of Trump's most vocal defenders.

The three NYT sources also said that the investigation is part of a broader investigation into a political ally, a local official in Florida named Joel Greenberg, who was indicted a year ago on charges including sex trafficking of a child and financially supporting people in exchange for sex, at least one of whom was an underage girl.
