Federal prosecutors add sex trafficking charges against Ghislaine Maxwell

Federal prosecutors unveiled the new charges on Monday.

Epstein died by suicide in August 2019, aged 66, while awaiting trial in jail.

A new lawsuit was filed in the Jeffrey Epstein saga just last week by a Jane Doe plaintiff who claims she was repeatedly raped and sex-trafficked by the dead financier and his associates - before ultimately having her vagina mutilated at his direction.

Law&Crime reached out for comment to Maxwell's lawyer Jeffrey Pagliuca and Daniel Weiner, an attorney for the executors of Epstein's estate.

According to the amended indictment, Maxwell and Epstein recruited the fourth victim to engage in sex acts with Epstein at his home in Palm Beach, Florida, and successfully encouraged her to recruit other girls to do the same. For the purposes of threatening and persuading [Doe] from reporting Epstein's criminal acts against her, Epstein and Maxwell stopped the vehicle at a large body of water that was infested with alligators.

The woman also claims the pair trafficked her to have sex with other men, including an unnamed local judge, and that Epstein forced her to undergo a vaginal medical procedure so he could market her as a virgin to one of his "high profile" clients.

Maxwell, a USA citizen, has pleaded not guilty to charges brought a year after Epstein was arrested on sex trafficking charges.

Brisbane on alert after rare local Covid transmission 26 March, 2021
Queensland has recorded one new community case of COVID in the past 24 hours. "We've seen what's happened in other countries". A review will be conducted on Wednesday night, to see if the lockdown can be lifted in time for the Easter break.

Maxwell is the former associate of Jeffery Epstein.

Doe says she met Epstein in 2006 or 2007 through her job. Prosecutors pushed to have bail denied for Maxwell, but the defense is arguing that Maxwell will not be a flight risk and that she was only hiding out to avoid media as opposed to the police.

According to Reuters and CNBC, Maxwell's new charges include sex trafficking conspiracy and sex trafficking of a minor.

Maxwell is facing a maximum of 35 years in prison if convicted on all counts. Maxwell's trial date for her charges is set for July 12, 2021.

An indictment returned after Maxwell's July arrest had limited crimes to a three-year period in the 1990s.

In the complaint, Doe describes her treatment by Epstein and his friends as "brutal" and says that her initial rape and subsequent sex trafficking occurred during the course of several months in early 2008. Prosecutors say she played a key role in Epstein's abuse of underage girls, helping to groom the victims and encouraging them to accept his offers of financial assistance.

In exchange, they paid her hundreds of dollars in cash for each encounter, prosecutors allege. She allegedly introduced Epstein to wealthy and powerful figures including Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew of the British Royal Family.
