India reports over 25k nCoV cases in 24 hrs

India reported 25,320 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours - the highest daily rise in nearly three months - taking the total tally to over 1.13 crore cases, the Health Ministry data this morning showed.

According to the health ministry, a total of 2,91,92,547 vaccine doses has been given as per the provisional report till 7 pm today.

More than 2.43 crore (2,43,67,906) COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered through 3,39,145 sessions across the States and Union Territories so far, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHWF) informed on Wednesday. After vaccinating 1.5 crore healthcare and frontline workers during the first phase, people above 60 years of age and those aged between 45-59 years with comorbidities are being administered the vaccine in the second phase.

On Saturday, 140 deaths linked to the virus were reported in a 24-hour-period that took the total number of fatalities to 1,58,446.

Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 15,602.

New Zealand's total number of cases to date is 2067.

Eight states are displaying an upward trajectory in daily new cases, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, 83.76 per cent of the new cases are from Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.

Auckland joined the rest of the country at alert level 1 at midday on Friday, following almost two weeks in alert levels 2 and 3, sparked by the detection of a community case in Papatoetoe, south Auckland. Punjab follows with 22 daily deaths. In the last 24 hours, 25 thousand 320 new cases were reported. These are Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, D&D & D&N, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh (UT), Manipur, Mizoram, A&N Islands and Arunachal Pradesh are among those.
