Winter Storm Warning Issued for All of South Louisiana

The NWS in Dallas is calling the snow threat a historic winter storm. Continued winter weather with ice and snow will likely only worsen travel conditions through the day and travel may be almost impossible by Monday evening. You can expect freezing rain that will transition to a sleet/snow mix and then eventually snow. A large winter storm dropped heavy snow across the region.

A deluge of ice and snow fueled by arctic cold and unrelenting winds is causing power outages throughout the northern Willamette Valley, Portland and coastal areas.

The Cascades will see another 6 to 12 inches of snow accumulation a day Monday and Tuesday.

The power outages in the Portland region could extend throughout the weekend for some, said Elizabeth Lattanner, a spokeswoman for PGE, one of the major electricity providers in the region.

The bulk of the precipitation begins to work out of here by Monday afternoon/evening, but the threats and hazards will be far from over. The exact amounts of which type of precipitation we will get obviously can't be determined this early.

Tuesday is going to be brutally cold!

The forecast for Mardi Gras does include a hard freeze warning and a wind chill advisory so maybe it's a good thing the coronavirus shut our parades down already. The current forecast calls for a low in Spring of 9°F. The wind chills were expected to reach as low as 50 degrees below zero in Billings and near Missoula, Montana, and almost as low across parts of Wyoming. These temperatures will become life threatening to people or animals outside without adequate warmth or shelter. "Maximum cold weather preparations MUST be completed today", Jeff Lindner, a Harris County Flood Control District meteorologist, tweeted Sunday morning.

The COVID-19 mass vaccination site at Portland's Oregon Convention Center is closed on Saturday and Sunday due to the weather, said Oregon Health & Science University.
