"This winter storm system continues to evolve but confidence is increasing just a bit that some travel impacts due to this wintry mix will develop", the weather service in Huntsville said.

At Lehigh Valley International Airport, the chance for snow arrives after 11 a.m. Saturday, mixing with sleet after 5 p.m.

Less than an inch of snow is forecast on the Cape and Islands, and up to 2 inches could fall in Boston, Worcester, Springfield and the Berkshires, the weather service said.

There could be snow showers in the early to mid-afternoon, followed by a chance and snow and sleet through the overnight into Valentine's Day on Sunday, Feb. 14 as a storm system arrives.

The main factor will be the influence of cold air coming from the gorge. The gorge could see up to 9 inches of new snow from Friday night through Saturday.

Sunday, Feb. 14 will start out slippery, with a chance of snow, freezing rain, and sleet, through late in the morning on a cloudy day with a high temperature in the low 30s and wind-chill values in the 20s.

These totals are dwarfed by the forecast totals across the higher elevations of the Cascades in Washington and northern Oregon.
