Hawk is being held without bond at the DeKalb jail on one count of murder, according to jail records.

At the time, police had no information about the suspect, but have since confirmed the suspect to be Silento.

As previously reported, Silento, known for his hit song "Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)", was arrested and booked at the DeKalb County Jail yesterday evening for felony murder.

According to the paper, police responding to a shots fired call at 3:30 a.m. on January 21 found Rooks dead at the scene "with multiple gunshot wounds". The Georgia-based rapper, real name Richard Lamar Hawk, briefly became a household name after the song shot to No. 3 on the Billboard charts.

Rooks was found lying on a road with multiple gunshot wounds.

However, after a thorough investigation, detectives identified Hawk as Rooks' cousin, and the person responsible for Rooks' murder. "Investigators are still working to uncover the motive for the shooting".

The arrest was shared by the DeKalb County Police Department in a tweet.

Prior to that arrest he was charged with inflicting corporal punishment on a spouse or cohabitant at a Santa Ana home on August 28. He has continued making music and released a new single, Swish, last week, but has not reached the same levels of fame as in 2015.

The rapper's publicist stated on Instagram that Hawk is a "gentle soul" and that he is been suffering from a series of mental health issues, so the public should have his family and him in prayer. He also released an album, Skyrolyrics, in October 2020.
