Jason Witten named head football coach at Liberty Christian School

He jumped from the NFL directly into the broadcast booth, becoming an analyst on "Monday Night Football".

Liberty Christian School in Argyle announced Monday the 38-year-old ex-Dallas Cowboys superstar has been tapped to run the team's football program for the foreseeable future.

Witten had 1,228 catches for 13,046 yards, the second-most in both categories by a tight end in National Football League history.

Witten declined multiple NFL and college football coaching opportunities, opting to coach at the school his children attend. This past season Witten played for the newly relocated team, the Las Vegas Raiders. Witten wasn't a natural as a commentator, and his inexperience showed.

It's not clear if Witten will dip his toe back into broadcasting in addition to his coaching position, but he did say he plans to sign a one-day contract to retire with the Cowboys in March. During which he made the Pro Bowl 11 times. He played 16 season in Dallas before spending 2020 with the Raiders. He had 13 catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns for the Raiders. He had four 1,000-yard seasons and in 2012 set the record for most catches in a season by a tight end (110) that has since been broken.

Now Witten will continue his journey on the football field by coaching Texas High School Football. Rivers previously accepted the head-coaching job at St. Michael Catholic in Fairhope, Ala. After the conclusion of the season he once again announced his retirement.
