COVID-19: More countries added to United Kingdom travel 'red list'

Emirates Airline has updated its website to say: "Currently, we're not operating flights from Dubai (DXB) to London Heathrow (LHR)".

The UK's move to ban direct passenger flights to and from the UAE has resulted in the shutting down of the world's busiest worldwide airline route from Dubai to London.

"This means people who have been in or transited through these countries will be denied entry, except British, Irish and third country nationals with residence rights who must self-isolate for 10 days at home", UK Transport Minister Grant Shapps said on Twitter on Thursday.

UK's transport secretary, Grant Shapps, said the UAE had been added to the 30 existing countries which are now subject to a travel ban - along with Rwanda and Burundi in central Africa. This will shut down the world's busiest worldwide airline route, from Dubai to London. Emirates, on its website, said flights to Birmingham, Glasgow, London and Manchester will be suspended.

Social media influencers and models are among those affected by the decision to ban direct flights from the UAE from 1pm.

"These measures are essential to reduce risk of importation of new cases and strains, particularly associated with the variant identified in South Africa".

Dubai Airport tweeted advising passengers not to go to the airport and contact their airlines for rescheduling the journey.

The travel ban does not include British and Irish nationals or third-country nationals with residence rights in the UK.

Everyone else is banned completely, and the government also announced that direct flights between Britain and the UAE were no longer allowed.

British nationals now in the UAE should make use of the commercial options available if they wish to return to the UK. Thus, Britain is shutting down the busiest global airline route from Dubai to London, Reuters has learned. Racing to get a flight back home.

Announcing the new law on Wednesday, Home Secretary Priti Patel said "too many" people are still entering the United Kingdom, despite lockdowns being in place across all four nations.

Travelers who were in the list of banned countries - including the UAE - in the last ten days can not enter at all.
