Saints place Brees on injured reserve

The decision comes as a bit of a surprise as the Saints rolled with Winston in relief of Drew Brees in each of their last two contests. This is the first time he has been placed on IR, and this will be just the seventh game he has missed due to injury in his 20-year career.

Hill has long since been a prominent part of the Saints' offensive gameplan, head coach Sean Payton utilising his athleticism by incorporating him as a part-time quarterback as well as a runner and a receiver.

Winston has been known for throwing a lot of interceptions, while Hill is mostly known for being a utility player who can assume any position on the field. Hill passed for almost 7,000 yards and 43 touchdowns on 6.6 yards/attempt in 37 games for BYU. Payton didn't deny that report, but told reporters he hadn't announced a starter yet. Winston was expected to start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but instead Hill will get the nod, NFL Network reported Friday morning. "Is that all right?"

Health Minister Christine Elliott said 463 new cases are in Peel Region, 410 cases are in Toronto, and 178 are in York Region. Ford says the case counts in Toronto, Peel Region, and York Region are very concerning and he will take "targeted" action.

"With the Saints and Falcons, it's a rivalry game", Jones said.

The Saints did not make either quarterback available for media interviews this week. All signs pointed to Winston taking on the starting role for that game while Brees deals with fractured ribs and a collapsed lung.

It's unclear whether the Saints are committed to using Hill throughout Brees' injury absence or whether they plan to evaluate both of their backup quarterbacks at some point. Payton and teammates have credited Winston for his attitude, leadership and development throughout the season. He did not throw for a touchdown and was almost intercepted when safety Jimmie Ward dropped a pass over the middle.
