US Hoping for Two Covid-19 Vaccines by End of November

U.S. pharmaceutical giant Pfizer expects to file for emergency use authorization for its COVID-19 vaccine in late November, around two weeks after the November 3 USA presidential election, it said Friday. The timelines included in the letter are not new, based on disclosures the company has previously made about the status of its vaccine effort with the German biotechnology firm BioNTech.

Pfizer chairman and CEO Albert Bourla said in a statement: "Based on our current trial enrolment and dosing pace, we estimate we will reach this milestone in the third week of November".

"We are proud that Indian manufacturers will make most of the world's supply of vaccine, and as healthcare service providers we will ensure the safest and most comprehensive delivery", said Kanineni.

Bourla noted the Food and Drug Administration is asking for two months of data on half of the participants in a vaccine trial following the final dose of a vaccine before it would grant Emergency Use Authorization in the US.

Meanwhile, Russia announced on Wednesday (October 14) that it has granted regulatory approval to another coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine.

Dansby Swanson belted a two-run double off relief pitcher Brusdar Graterol, and Austin Riley's single scored Swanson. Game 6 will be a rematch of the opener when Blake Snell pitched the Rays past Framber Valdéz and the Astros 2-1.

Despite President Trump's repeated promises of a vaccine before election day, scientists have been cautioning that it's unlikely that data showing a shot actually works would come until November or December.

"I've said before, we are operating at the speed of science". "To do so, we must accumulate a certain number of COVID-19 cases in our trial to compare the effectiveness of the vaccine in vaccinated individuals to those who received a placebo". The vaccine must reduce the risk of infection by at least 50% in order to be considered for FDA emergency authorization. "It has said that it may have interim data on its 30,000 person trial as soon as November", as reported by Reuters. Pfizer's vaccine requires two doses, about a month apart.

On Tuesday, pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly said it paused a government-sponsored antibody treatment trial because of a "potential safety concern".

The beneficiaries of vaccine in the first phase will receive an estimated 600 million doses and implementation plan aims to cover over 23% of the population, according to the report.
