Unifor reaches tentative deal with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the union representing it's workers in Canada have reached a tentative deal that includes a major investment in the Windsor Assembly Plant.

The auto union said FCA will invest in the development of an advanced vehicle platform that will allow for the assembly of plug-in hybrid and all-electric vehicles, and that at least one new model will be available by 2025.

The news came as part of an interim agreement with Canadian auto workers (Unifor), announced by the union's national president Jerry Dias on Thursday.

The third shift at Windsor Assembly is forecast to return in 2024, adding as many as 2,000 new jobs and there will be a $50 million investment in the Brampton Assembly Plant to extend the life of the Chrysler 300 as well introduce multiple derivatives of the best-selling Dodge Charger and Challenger.

"The work in Windsor will start in 2023", said Dias.

Unifor members working at Ford Motor Company of Canada Ltd. voted in favour of a new three-year deal last month in a deal that created a template for talks with the other automakers.

The deal with Ford included plans to produce electric vehicle batteries, alongside investments from both the federal and Ontario governments.

A Fiat Chrysler spokeswoman confirmed it reached a tentative deal with Unifor but would refrain from releasing details until a later date.

Maguire will bounce back after setbacks, says Solskjaer
Cavani is yet to join the squad because he is in quarantine. "We are working hard and looking forward to it", added Ighalo. There's so many ups and downs that we have got to deal with it, individually and as a group.

The details of the deal will be presented first to Unifor members during a series of virtual ratification meetings this weekend.

The union said negotiations continued through the Thanksgiving weekend as Fiat Chrysler challenged elements of the union's agreement with Ford, including wages and health-care benefits.

Unifor President Jerry Dias was in direct contact with FCA executives to get a deal done.

FCA will be supplying the majority of the financial investment, but Dias said the company is still in talks with both the province and Ottawa for some financial support.

"There is room for another model on two shifts, however, the plant operated on three shifts for so long that workers are more than ready to add another high-volume product", he said of the Windsor facility.

Before the tentative settlement with FCA was announced, the union had said the progress had been slow during the run up to the deadline.

Unifor is then expected to begin negotiations with General Motors' Canadian division next week.
