Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross debuts, plug-in hybrid version next year

The revised edition of the small SUV will first debut in Australia and New Zealand this November, before it hits the North American market in the early part of 2021. Unfortunately, the PHEV variant planned for the model is not scheduled for the Canadian market, for now anyways.

There's a new front fascia that includes slimmer headlights and a slightly modified grille design, but regular buyers are unlikely to really notice.

Moderately redesigned, the 2022 Eclipse Cross features styling enhancements designed to create more of a sleek sporty SUV appearance. Never before has a Mitsubishi vehicle been so design-forward, as ECLIPSE CROSS brings sophistication to the next level. The front retains the Dynamic Shield design but now sports a new bumper guard and refreshed head- and foglamp layout. It now features a much more conventional single piece of tailgate glass and a normal top-mounted spoiler, while redesigned taillights now extend up to the roof. Some will cheer its departure nonetheless, and any comparisons with certain features of the old Pontiac Aztek can now be laid to rest.

At the rear, the hatch and window have been adjusted to give a more sophisticated line and improve visibility.

Moving inside the vehicle, the cabin is adorned with a new black trim with silver accents and light grey leather seats, with the light grey touches also applied to the door trims.

Inside, Mitsubishi has matched upholstery colour to trim elements depending on specification, while a new 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto sits closer to the driver.

Apple iPhone 12 and 12 Pro go on pre-order today
Likewise, the Apple iPhone 12 mini SIM-free costs $729 and not $699 as announced by Apple at the Hi, Speed event last evening. Down before Apple kicked off its iPhone shebang, equity in the phone giant dipped and then rallied as the event got underway.

Powering the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is the same 1.5-litre four-pot turbo petrol engine generating 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque, mated to a CVT automatic transmission with all-wheel drive.

Using a compact turbocharger reduces fuel consumption but also minimizes turbo lag for driver-centric feel and performance, while the combination of direct fuel injection and turbocharging delivers greater efficiency at all roads and engine speeds.

Beyond that, Mitsubishi says the springs in the front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link suspension have been finely tuned, and enlarged rear suspension absorbers have been incorporated.

MITSUBISHI MOTORS' S-AWC system delivers stable handling and precise control, giving drivers confidence to conquer on-road conditions easily.

Mitsubishi has not disclosed official pricing of the 2022 Eclipse Cross, but expect it to closely follow the current version, which starts around $24,000.
