Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban tests positive for COVID-19

Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban tests positive for COVID-19

The 68-year-old head coach, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, said he is now asymptomatic and has been coaching the second-ranked Crimson Tide remotely during practice this week.

Alabama team doctor Jimmy Robinson confirmed that the university's athletic director, Greg Byrne, also tested positive.

When and how that changes upon Saban's contraction of COVID-19 remains to be seen. "I mean, shoot, it's maybe the biggest football game in the SEC this year and the best coach in the SEC is maybe not gonna be able to coach the game".

"I know he's been extremely vigilant and put a great deal of thought and effort into the care of his team and players", Belichick said.

Study finds 4 drugs have little to no effect on COVID
The world's largest randomized trial of COVID-19 treatments found "conclusive evidence" that remdesivir, a drug used to treat U.S. The results for the four drugs in the study seen by the Financial Times cover the period from March to the beginning of October.

Saban's self-quarantine is expected to last several days, leaving questions over who will coach the No. 2-ranked Southeastern Conference team in its scheduled game Saturday against No. 3 University of Georgia - if the matchup is not postponed along with other conference bouts originally slated for the weekend. Former USC coach and current Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian is the interim coach in Saban's place.

"He is continuing to self-isolate and will remain in the SEC testing protocol while being evaluated daily", the school said. In an earlier response to the prospect of any coach being in quarantine because of COVID-19, Shaw's interpretation was that coaches aren't allowed to use technology to call in plays or communicate with the team in the locker room. The Tide is coming off a game against MS, which this week had an undisclosed number of players test positive.

According to the NCAA's rules, the only communication can happen from the press box to the field.

Alabama team physicians Jimmy Robinson and Jeff Allen said Saban and Byrne were the only two individuals who tested positive "at this point in time" and explained that the school would follow the SEC's Return to Activity and Medical Guidance Task Force Protocol for testing asymptomatic positives.
