Alex Albon on first F1 podium and 'Lewis Hamilton flashbacks'

Gasly was demoted from Red Bull back to its sister team - then known as Toro Rosso - after just 12 races in 2019, with Albon moving in the opposite direction. Instead, the French driver finished a lap down on his teammate, who was passed by Hamilton for the win. "When we lost two positions on the final re-start, I was sacked up as I wasn't going to let the opportunity of a podium go by so I pushed hard to get third and I'm over the moon with today's result".

The Frenchman suggested he would be receptive to a second opportunity at Red Bull, if the situation arose, but Horner says there is no intention of swapping the drivers once more.

Albon replaced Gasly at Red Bull past year.

In a vehicle that many accuse of being too suited to Max Verstappen, Alex Albon has managed to equal his best grid spot in F1 and showcase his fast, aggressive and precise driving style to grab fourth and secure himself a VIP seat for all the action at the front.

Speaking after the race, Albon voiced his delight at finally breaking his duck at the end of a tough race.

"It's great to have both drivers up on the second row in qualifying with Max third and Alex fourth and we extracted the most out of the vehicle today". The six-time world champion had a clean getaway at the start, but Bottas dropped to sixth within two laps, with Carlos Sainz Jr and Lando Norris in the McLarens and the Racing Points of Sergio Perez and Lance Stroll mixing it up at the front. The safety auto was deployed, and the first driver to take advantage of the window of opportunity to pit was Gasly.

Max Verstappen for the third time in the season will not be able to complete the race, as he got his vehicle crashed at the start of the race, taking out his former teammate Pierre Gasly too.

Out came the safety vehicle again, but this time from the pit lane - meaning the race was brought to a halt.

After a standing restart on lap 28, Hamilton was in the lead, but he had to serve a 10-second stop-go penalty for entering the pit lane when it was closed. For the next 25 laps, Gasly initially held off Kimi Raikkonen in the Alfa Romeo and then Sainz, who closed in in the final stages but was unable to get his McLaren past the Alpha Tauri.

The driver finished 3rd for the Milton Keynes-based team, taking them back onto the podium after neither auto finished in the points last week.

"Alex has had a strong weekend with his best F1 qualifying result to date which will provide him with confidence ahead of the race". It was like three races in one day. "It's insane and it takes your breath away so I hope we continue with tracks like this in the future".
