PM Modi invites Shinzo Abe, wife Akie Abe to visit India

In a phone call on Thursday, Abe and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi agreed on the importance of their countries' close security and economic cooperation, and shared the view that the signing of the pact the previous day will help realize a free and open Indo-Pacific region, the Japanese government said.

Indian Defense Secretary Ajay Kumar and Japanese Ambassador Suzuki Satoshi signed the agreement on Thursday that would allow for the "reciprocal provision of supplies and services", the Times of India reported Friday.

"The deal establishes the enabling framework for closer cooperation between the armed forces of Japan and India in the reciprocal provision of supplies and services while engaged in bilateral training activities, United Nations peacekeeping operations, humanitarian worldwide relief and other mutually agreed activities".

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe directed the NSC to look at ways to deter threats ranging from North Korean ballistic missiles, to cruise missiles, stealth aircraft and drones deployed by other adversaries. This agreement will facilitate the smooth provision of supplies and services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Indian Armed Forces. It will also promote closer cooperation and enable the two forces to contribute actively to worldwide peace.

In the talks, PM Modi apprised Shinzo Abe his intention to work closely with the new government of Japan and wished him the very best for the future, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

His first serve will be crucial to the early proceedings, having fired down 116 aces during the tournament compared to Thiem's 41. And he fell as the first Austrian victor of a Grand Slam since Thomas Muster bested Michael Chang at the 1995 French Open final.

Abe had indicated his desire to set the policy direction on whether to acquire a strike capability against missile bases in other countries even before he announced late last month he is resigning for health reasons.

"In this context, both Prime Ministers welcomed the signing of the Agreement between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of India Concerning Reciprocal Provision of Supplies and Services between the Self-Defense Forces of Japan and the Indian Armed Forces (so-called "Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement", or ACSA) on September 9". They concurred that the agreement will further enhance the depth of defence cooperation between the two countries and contribute to peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.

The two leaders reviewed the status of ongoing cooperation, including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project, under the framework of the India-Japan Special Strategic & Global Partnership.

The outgoing Japanese prime minister noted that bilateral relations have recently been elevated to "greater heights".
