Autopsy reports Naya Rivera called for help as she drowned

Naya Rivera shouted for help moments before she drowned in a California lake in July, according to new reports.

While the investigative report noted that "three, 12-ounce White Claw alcohol cans were found near" Rivera's purse - one empty, one "about ¾ full" and one unopened - the toxicology report put her blood-alcohol level at 0.016%, with examiners determining that "some or all of the ethanol detected may have been due to postmortem production".

The Ventura County Medical Examiner stated that Josey "noticed the decedent put her arm up in the air and yelled 'help, '" before Rivera "disappeared in to the water". He said once they jumped in his mother immediately helped him back into the boat. The rental staff stated he gave her a single life jacket, despite the fact she declined one initially. Her cause of death remains a drowning and the manner of death was ruled as an accident. Rivera's vertigo symptoms would worsen when in water despite her being described as a "good swimmer".

Toxicology tests indicated she had a therapeutic level of the appetite-suppressant phentermine, therapeutic levels of prescribed amphetamines and the anti-anxiety drug Diazepam in her system.

The report also revealed that the Glee star suffered from vertigo, which she was managing with medication.

Josey, Rivera's son with her former husband, actor Ryan Dorsey, was found sleeping and alone on the drifting boat later that afternoon. Naya was confirmed dead on July 13 at the age of 33 after her body was discovered in the lake. Josey told investigators that his mother helped him back onto the boat after swimming, but when he turned around, he saw his "mom was gone". Her body was found floating atop the lake, and authorities believe her body was previously stuck in the lake's thick vegetation under the surface.

The report indicates Rivera "knew how to swim well".

Rivera was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles two weeks after her death on Friday, July 24, according to a death certificate obtained by People magazine at the time.
