Files by Google adds PIN protection for personal files

You will be asked for the PIN every time you open the folder.

Google has launched Safe Folder for its Files by Google application, a new feature that will allow users to keep private files locked in a separate, password-locked folder in the app. We have no idea what Google plans to do with this feature, so at the moment, I would advise against using the Safe Folder to store any critical documents. If you forget the four-digit PIN, you can't recover the files there. Files added to the Safe Folder can only be accessed after entering a 4-digit PIN but can be freely moved in or out of the folder. Now the tables have turned, as the company has officially announced that it's rolling out Safe Folder in Files by Google, starting today. While this can be advantageous, it accompanies the hazard that others may approach your own records, said Google in the blog entry. The new Files by Google highlight will be safely bolted when you step away from the application, guaranteeing that the content you store there can't be gotten to when the application is out of sight. The Safe Folder appears as a button in the "Collections" section of the "Browse" tab. Now the question is when will Files by Google replace the default Files app on Google and Android One devices? Google has said this feature will be available to all users in the coming weeks so don't worry if you can't see it. If you also lose or change your device, you also can't get access or transfer the files as they are not backed up to the cloud.
