A spokesperson for James Murdoch said there would be no immediate further comment and that the letter spoke for itself.

As CNN's Brian Stelter noted, Murdoch had previously parted ways with 21st Century Fox, where he was CEO, at least in part over Fox News' editorial approach. His more conservative sibling, Lachlan, is the heir apparent to New Corp Executive Chairman Rupert and is co-chairman of News Corp. His Friday resignation from News Corp represents the growing distance he has placed between his brother and father's media businesses. While he no longer has an official position on either board, he retains his share of the Murdoch Family Trust, which has voting stakes in both companies.

News Corp.is the newspaper publishing arm of the Murdoch empire and parent of The Wall Street Journal, The New York Postas and tabloids and newspaper in Britain and Australia. It also includes the book publisher HarperCollins.

Antonio Brown suspended for 8 games for violating league's personal conduct policy
The NFL can extend Brown's suspension depending on what happens in Brown's civil suit, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. It was just last week when Brown took to social media to demand that the league conclude their personal conduct investigation.

They have also spoken of particular disappointment about climate change denial in Murdoch-owned Australian outlets.

James Murdoch has said he doesn't watch the company's flagship news channel, Fox News, and he's criticised News Corp's coverage of wildfires.

This is a developing story.
