Authorities in Australian state of Victoria make masks compulsory for all

"I am saddened to have to report that the total number of people who have died because of this global pandemic in Victoria is now 105", said Victoria state premier Daniel Andrews.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced the change after the state added 723 coronavirus cases, a new daily record.

Andrews says the current surge in numbers reflects the situation of about two days ago.

'We can not open up with these numbers, we can not open up with significantly less than these numbers'.

"With existing outbreaks and the potential new clusters, I knew there was potential on any given day we might see a rise in numbers".

Victoria has broken its own record for new cases with 723 recorded across the state on July 30.

Victoria now has 5,385 active cases with 913 of those spread across 87 aged care homes - that's around 17% of the state's active cases.

"We've now been in this lockdown (in Melbourne) for some weeks, and we are not getting the results we would hope for, and as a result, the further measures that are taken are certainly necessary", Morrison told reporters in Canberra.

There are now 312 people hospitalised, 34 in intensive care, and 913 active cases in Victoria.

While Iran's naval forces are dwarfed by the US Navy, its commanders practise swarm tactics aimed at overwhelming US carriers. It remains unclear when or if the Nimitz will pass through the Strait of Hormuz or not during its time in the Mideast.

Half of the new deaths were connected to aged care homes in the city.

The Mexican government has said the real number of infected people is likely to be significantly higher than the confirmed cases.

"Once we move through this period of case reporting of the current aged care outbreaks then we will be able to see how much we've suppressed case numbers in the community, but it might take a week or two to get through", she said.

In South Australia, one new case, locally-acquired as well, and the contact was still being investigated whereas in Western Australia, one overseas-acquired case was recorded.

"If you are a positive case you need to be at home and you need to be isolating", he said. "None", he said, noting that Victoria has had around 50 cases a day with no known source. Andrews said OR in the United States had modelled this arrangement.

"It may be that there is further support that is needed for businesses, for workers", the premier said.

While the jump in coronavirus case numbers was disappointing, Prof Bennett said it was important for people not to give up wearing masks or maintaining social distance.

"On some days the virus wins, on other days we beat it".

"That is why I'm grateful for such a positive partnership, one that is all about dealing with the challenge".
