Two Friends in US Share Powerball Jackpot Win, Keeping 1992 Promise

Almost three decades ago, Tom Cook and Joseph Feeney promised each other that if anyone among them won the Powerball jackpot, they would split the winning money.

A Wisconsin man delivered on a handshake deal made with a buddy nearly thirty years ago and split the earnings from a $22 million Powerball jackpot.

The winners chose to receive a one-time cash payment, which is why the final amount was significantly less than the original win. The winners do not yet know where they will spend the money, but said they "can't think of a better reason to retire".

"When I read the first two or three numbers, I kind of froze", he said in an interview Thursday with the Wisconsin Lottery.

The law meant to de-escalate tensions between police and demonstrators was set to take effect on Sunday. Additionally, police said protesters opened windows at a King County courthouse.

Cook gave his two-week notice and has since retired. In 2016, family friends Daniel Golio shared part of his jackpot with Laura Bianco right here in New York City, albeit with a slightly smaller prize. "A handshake's a handshake, man".

The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot are 1 in about 292 million. I'm thrilled for them.

But despite the size of the jackpot, the men will receive just $5.7 million each of the winnings after state and federal taxes. "So we buy every week ... not really thinking it would happen".

Wisconsin lottery director Cindy Polzin said the honoured agreement showed the strength of their friendship. The duo said they are looking forward to some travelling. Cook stop his job and is planning to invest more time with family and travel hassle-free.
