Trump denies aide's remark on China trade deal

"Energy traders will likely remain sceptical of the relationship between the USA and China if the Chinese fail to quickly make up for the shortfall with their promises of agricultural goods (purchases)".

Bartiromo made the comments after President Trump declared on Twitter that the trade deal is "fully intact" following White House aide Peter Navarro's appearance on Fox News the night before declaring it is "over".

Some media interpreted the comment as meaning the agreement would be scrapped.

Under the Phase 1 trade deal, China had pledged to boost purchases of US goods by $200 billion over two years.

Navarro later backtracked on his remark.

Oil prices steadied on Tuesday after a volatile session sparked by confusion over the status of the U.S.

Navarro compared China's actions during the pandemic to the Japanese government holding peace talks with the administration of Franklin Delano Roosevelt in late 1941, which was weeks before the attack on Pearl Harbor. He told Fox Business that moment amounted to a "turning point" in relations between the superpowers. "But once the virus came in, I said, 'How did they let that happen?'", the president said.

Cinemas and museums set to reopen from July 4 in England
Pubs , restaurants and hairdressers across England will be permitted to reopen next month, the Prime Minister has confirmed. He said not all restrictions could be lifted at once and people would need to remain vigilant and use common sense.

"It was at a time when they had already sent hundreds of thousands of people to this country to spread that virus, and it was just minutes after wheels up when that plane took off that we began to hear about this pandemic", Navarro said.

Trump last Thursday (June 18) renewed his threat to cut ties with China, a day after his top diplomats held talks with Beijing and his trade representative said he did not consider decoupling the USA and Chinese economies a viable option.

"So I think they are using this COVID-19 pandemic to gain territory", Bartiromo added.

He said the turning point came after Trump learned about the coronavirus' fast-paced spread in the USA only after the Chinese delegation that signed the phase one deal had left Washington D.C.

As for the trade deal, Zhao said: "China's stance on the issue has been consistent and clear".

The Democratic National Committee is going on offense against President Donald Trump's trade record, hoping that a new television ad campaign and a series of focused events headlined by top Democrats will persuade voters who backed Trump in 2016 to reject him four years later.

There are now more than nine million confirmed cases of coronavirus globally, and 472,856 confirmed deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
